Memoirs Of A Geisha

Set in a mysterious and exotic world which still casts a potent spell today, the story begins in the years before World War II, when a Japanese child is torn from her penniless family to work as a servant in a geisha house. Despite a treacherous rival who nearly breaks her spirit, the girl blossoms into the legendary geisha Sayuri. Beautiful and accomplished, Sayuri captivates the most powerful men of her day, but is haunted by her secret love for the one man beyond her reach.

I was so anxious to see this movie because I absolutely loved the book. So Dan and I went last night. I don't think he really new how much of a chick flick this really was. lol...but I think he enjoyed it. I loved this movie, every bit of it. Very well adapted from the novel. She is *so* beautiful - Ziyi Zhang - although her name wants me to say zigzag...and well we know she really doesnt have eyes of rain. lol
I like how the movie ended...she gets her man...well at night time anyway, as you know, a geisha cant be a full wife (oooh kaaay) and they leave it at that. In the book, she moved to New York and opens a teahouse and the chairman ends up passing away.
Nobu wasnt all *that* ugly in the movie now was he? The book made it appear you couldn't even look at him without getting the dry heaves.
One of the best novel to screen movies ever....two thumbs up!!!
